Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Jila ("we", "us") handles your information when you use the Jila mobile application and the jila.io website (together, the "Service"). Jila is designed around a simple principle: your recordings belong to you.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. If you sign in, we receive your basic profile from your sign-in provider (such as Google): name, email address, and profile picture. We use this only to authenticate you and associate your uploads with your account.

Audio recordings and transcripts. Recordings you create in Jila — from the phone microphone, imported files, or transferred from a BOYA recorder — are stored on your device. If you choose to transcribe a recording, the audio file and the resulting transcript, summary, and mindmap are stored on our backend and tied to your account. You can profile your "About me" details to improve accuracy; these are stored with your account and sent with your recordings to the AI provider. We do not sell, share, or use your recordings, transcripts, or profile for advertising or for training AI models.

Profile and "About me". Anything you enter in "About me" (your name, role, the people, products, and jargon around you) is stored with your account and included with each transcription request to help the AI get names and terms right.

Device and diagnostic data. We may collect basic, non-identifying diagnostic information (app version, OS version, crash logs) to keep the Service reliable.

2. What We Do Not Collect

3. How Transcription and Analysis Work

When you request a transcript, your audio is sent to an AI provider (currently Google Gemini API) solely to generate the transcript, summary, and mindmap. The audio is processed under that provider's API data-handling terms and is not used to serve you ads. You can delete any recording and its outputs at any time, which removes it from backend storage.

4. Connecting AI Assistants (MCP)

You can optionally generate a connector link that lets an AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) search and read your transcripts and summaries. The link grants access only to your own recordings, and you can revoke or replace it at any time — which immediately cuts off the connected assistant.

5. Bluetooth and Local Network Access

If you use a BOYA recorder, Jila uses Bluetooth to discover and communicate with it, and may temporarily join a WiFi network broadcast by the recorder to transfer large files quickly. These connections are device-to-device; no recording data passes through our servers during transfer.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Recordings and transcripts remain stored until you delete them. Deleting a recording in the app deletes it from your device and, where applicable, from backend storage. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time — see how to delete your account, or contact hello@jila.io.

7. Security

Data in transit between the app and backend services is encrypted with TLS. Access to stored recordings requires authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we apply industry-standard safeguards.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@jila.io.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
